An interview with Douglas Bowman (18 Mar 2004)
One final thought related to all this. I’m a firm believer in teaching people how to fish, rather than giving them one. Also, along those lines, throughout the learning process, I believe it’s important to understand why something is done a certain way, not just how to do it. It’s applicable in many aspects of life, but certainly so when learning or expanding your knowledge of standards-based design. Skipping the why to get straight to the how will only allow you to think of solutions within a limited context. A good understanding of the why opens up limitless possibilities for applying what you know in many different situations.
