Cooltown Chills (01 May 2003)
Despite the slow adoption of the Cooltown ideal, Becker is still dreaming. He talks with enthusiasm, for example, about being able to point a cell phone at a movie poster and watch the trailer for the film on the phone. This requires multimedia and wireless function with high bandwidth on the cell phone as well as a beam coming from the poster itself. This type of vision, he cautioned, takes time to trickle down from early adopters to mainstream pervasiveness. It took a few decades before television became pervasive, and even the Internet was around for at least 20 years before the Web made it accessible.
