Passing the Test: Magellan Improves Your Code (10 Sep 2004)
The job of a software tester is more art than science. Testers need to be interpreters, communicators, detectives, and diplomats. They need to know what an application does, and how it is supposed to do it. They need to decipher project specifications and delve into the minds of developers. They probe the black box known as the program files, searching for verification of what is right and evidence of what is wrong. Deciding what to test, when to test, and how to test are just some of the critical decisions testers must make. And they need to do fast - preferably yesterday.

The Magellan Code Coverage Framework, developed by the Test Effectiveness group in the Programmer Productivity Research Center (PPRC), provides Microsoft testers with empirical data that helps answer some basic questions.
