How Google works (24 Sep 2004)
Mr Page and Mr Brin made another important innovation early on. This was to consider the “anchor text”—the bit of text that is traditionally blue and underlined and forms a link from one page to another-as a part of the web page it referred to, as well as part of the page it was actually on. This further helps to ensure that when searching for the name of a person or company, the appropriate website appears at the top of the list of results.
