Neon in Nagoya (02 May 2005)
Move over, Segway. Now there's something...well, weirder. These single-passenger concept vehicles, called I-Units, are being demonstrated at Toyota Corp.'s pavilion at the 2005 World Exposition, now going on in Nagoya, Japan. In this photo, the performers are driving the vehicles at low speed, but should they wish to really rocket around, their I-Units recline into a more aerodynamic mode, lowering themselves about 60 centimeters and lengthening themselves 70 cm.

Toyota included control electronics to allow the vehicles to operate on autopilot in specially equipped lanes. According to the company, the system may help lead to an "accident-free society," which probably explains the lack of seat belts.
