Mudlarking in Deptford (18 Jun 2005)
The initial task for the team is to design a toolkit that enables young people to capture the data that will allow them to tell the story of their tour. Students from Sydenham School are working with learning researchers at NESTA Futurelab and Juliet Sprake in an iterative design partnership to create a toolkit that takes into account the tools required for capturing data and the interface that will support users in creating their own tour. The toolkit is being developed by digital artist Peter Rogers before trials begin in early 2005.

The first group of users will be the students who are co-designers of the toolkit. They will test the prototype by populating the tour with content for triggers, located in destination and journey nodes, gathered through a number of visits to the Creekside Education Centre in Deptford. During this stage of the project, the students will be creating the information that will be accessed and evolved by future tour users.

At the end of the project, students and teachers will be involved in a full evaluation of the prototype. The evaluation phase will investigate young people’s developing understanding of creekside histories, stories and environment and investigate the extent to which the new technology has enabled the students to reconceptualise the area.
